"FOUR Singapore-Israel joint research and development projects worth some US$2.8 million have received fresh funding..." - TODAY, Singapore: Apr 1, 2008

Next project proposal submission deadline is
30th June 2008

Dr Eliezer Opper, Chief Scientist, Israel, "The mission of SIIRD is to support R&D projects of high novelty. We have realized that, while we support R&D projects of high novelty, companies are able to spend more resources on developmental projects that are of lower novelty. Projects of higher novelty tend to spin off more economic benefits." - Lian He Zao Bao, Singapore: Feb 23, 2008

"Next year, SIIRD will spend US$3 million to sponsor more joint R&D projects in areas such as clean technologies, alternative energies such as fuel cell and tidal power, telematics and digital media."  - Business Times, Singapore: Nov 15, 2007

A message to Singaporean companies.

Industrial R&D partnering can be a highly effective way of expanding the technological scope of a firm. As well, collaboration in R&D often entails joint effort at commercialization in which each partner benefits from the market presence of the other. For Singaporean companies there are many reasons why looking for such partnerships in Israel makes a good deal of sense:

  • the high level and quality of the Industrial research base - Israel employs, on a per capita basis, more scientists and engineers than any other country. The national R&D effort is over 3% of GDP, making it one of the world's highest;
  • today Israel has about 4000 companies (including start-ups) in technology-based industries - these numbers represent the second highest concentration in the world, in absolute terms, after California. high tech exports have more than doubled over the last 6 years;
  • Israel enjoys free trade with the U.S., Canada, the European Union, the EFTA countries and several other dynamic economies;
  • Israel has signed special industrial R&D agreements with over a dozen countries as well as founded bi-national industrial R&D funds with the U.S, Canada, U.K., and Singapore. Its high technology sector is a veritable international hub of technology flow;
  • areas of proven strength and technological comparative advantage are:
    • Internet
    • Software
    • E-commerce
    • Encryption and data security
    • Telecommunication
    • Multimedia
    • Electronics
    • Computer aided education
    • Biomedical devices
    • Health-related biotechnology
    • Agricultural biotechnology

The Singapore-Israel Industrial R&D Foundation (SIIRD) is especially well networked with the industrial sectors of Israel to identify for your firm an appropriate technological partner. SIIRD can also offer funding support for collaborative industrial R&D projects, which have technical and commercial merit.

If your company is interested in seeking a technology partner in Israel, we request your participation in the writing up of a profile of your company, describing its capabilities as well as the features of its desired partner. The profile will then be matched with our Israeli database so that we can provide you with a list of firms for your consideration. SIIRD will be pleased to assist you, through either our Singaporean or Israeli office, in making initial contact with any company in Israel for which you show interest.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.
