	SIIRD approved Total Research Spending of US$4.4m for 5 new joint R&D projects

	The Singapore-Israel Industrial R&D Foundation (SIIRD) promotes joint industrial R&D projects, between companies from Israel and Singapore, which would lead to successful commercialization. SIIRD is a co-operation between the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) in Israel. In its latest round of Board meeting in March 2006 in Singapore, SIIRD approved funding of US$1.56 million to 5 pairs of companies to embark on new projects, which would be conducted in both Israel and Singapore. The projects will create a total research investment of US$4.4 millions. One of the approved projects is between Israeli company M-Systems Flash Disk Pioneers Ltd, maker of flash-based data storage products such as DiskOnKey®, and Amphenol East Asia Ltd in Singapore, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of interconnect products. They have come together to develop a dual-side Flip USB flash memory device. Another approved project between Singapore Technologies Electronics (Training & Simulation Systems) Pte Ltd and Tiltan Systems Engineering Ltd aims to develop a computerized C4i system (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence) for civilian applications with 3D visualization as well as training and simulation capabilities. Other participating companies include: XID Technologies Pte Ltd (Singapore) and Concealogram Ltd (Israel); IPVox Asia Pte Ltd (Singapore) and Parallel Communications Ltd (Israel); Bluengine Asia Pacific Pte Ltd (Singapore) and InspiAir Ltd (Israel). To date, SIIRD has approved nearly 60 R&D projects of total research investment of US$70 million. Besides funding R&D projects, SIIRD also provides free assistance in locating partners from Singapore and Israel interested in R&D collaboration in a variety of technological fields.
