Auric Pacific Nutritech (APN)is a biotech subsidiary of Auric Pacific Group Ltd - a SGX listed Corporate. APN is manufacturing the well-known Chinese herbs such as Cordyceps sinensis by its patented technology, through its owned bioreactor factory and laboratory located in Singapore Science Park 1. APN is currently selling the ingredients of medicinal fungi, Cordyceps siensis capsules, health foods & functional drinks such as Cordyceps milk, sport drink, booster oral liquid etc.
Brief description of proposed R&D project:
Oxidative stress has been implicated in disease states, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, cancer, and aging. Oxidative stress can even make efficacious drug such as Viagra ineffective. Potent antioxidants are still lack though we have many existing compounds like alpha-lipoic acid, vitamins C and E, coenzyme Q10. As suggested by Dr. Louis Ignarro - a Nobel Laureate for Nitric oxide in an interview with Todd Runestad - a science editor of the Functional Foods & Nutraceuticals, as quoted "Many companies I consult for have been directing their efforts recognizing that the best way to deal with this situation is to give antioxidants. There has not been enough attention paid by the pharmaceutical industry to develop a potent antioxidant. We don't need more vitamins C and E, we need some new compounds. I wish we could find naturally occurring compounds that are more potent than vitamin C and E."
These novel naturally occurring antioxidant compounds are very likely to be existed in medicinal fungal species. We will screen the species of
medicinal fungi, particularly to develop a complimentary medicine to Viagra used for those patients who are suffering Oxidative Stress.
